Hello. Many missions I take are broken for whatever reasons, often because (a) they're US-centric, (b) the site has moved / died / redirects or (c) they're a little bit borked after a PMOG change (soz guys -- it happens!)

Now usually, I'll message the author and explain why and where it's borked for me. But it happens SO frequently it's a bit of a pest, and often there's no reply. If a player has dropped out of PMOG, why then, what do I do to get it fixed?

So, some ideas. Because getting halfway through an interesting mission and encountering Sir Borkalot is teh suxx0r.

* Some method to flag a mission as (possibly) borked. If so, must describe (exactly) why -- maybe exact URL (failed on http://ihatebacon.com), step number (failed on the 3rd step), non-international site (failed coz of Amazon).

* Recruit trustworthy PMOGers to be mission checkers. If a mission is flagged as borked, they have the means to follow up -- take mission themselves, contact reporter for more details, adjudicate on whether it's a problem.

* Said recruits could help determine whether the author is still active. If after, say, 4 weeks of reasonable contact efforts the author doesn't respond, move the mission in question to a "hospital" area for further investigation.

Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. But what about missions like the puzzle mission I recently made that a number of people reported having trouble with? They got to the last page but couldn't get the "complete" button to work. I have no way of knowing how many just gave up and left at that point. I'd say that mission qualifies as "broken" too, but the problem was out of my hands. It would be nice if there was a way to flag system problems for the devs without the risk of an otherwise functional good mission being needlessly destroyed.

Sounds like grounds for a new class, 'Auditor'

You can just "Tag" a mission broken, I have done that. Then I guess the maker of the mission can tag it "fixed."

@mmmpi, that's a really good idea, never thought of that. but as well as flagging/tagging missions as broken, i'm looking for a way to fix them as well.

I guess I'm thinking of the Java Black Belt model, which is a site where the community creates Java and Java-related exams. Anyone can contribute questions but there are designated moderators who check that questions meet the exam objectives, aren't copied from elsewhere, etc. Moderators are regular contributors who have made frequent contributions, or who show willing to perform what is ultimately a pretty thankless task.

So if PMOG had Auditors or Interrogators or Inquisitors or Ministry of Interior Officers or whatever, I envisage them being able to list broken missions, at least view the lightposts in a mission, check which ones are broken by going to each one, propose fixes to the authors and perhaps ultimately fix them or notify the Trustees. I'm not proposing a police force, more a cleanup crew. So I guess they wouldn't be Inquisitors so much as Janitors or Servitors or Steam-sweeps or Auto-scuttles or Gaslighters or Thermolampers or Purificators or Polishers or...

Hmm. It would appear that the flow of words has become rather strident, disorderly and nonsensical.

IOW, I'm rambling. Again.

@uselessness I'm totally not proposing destroying missions, just fixing them up. And I'm mostly thinking of broken lightposts rather than system problems like the one you mention ("complete" not working).

Sure, I got the distinction, I just thought I'd ride on your tailcoats with my own completely unrelated gripe... ;-)

thats actually quite a good idea..
i've made a really long mission for badges but its prone to get broken..
till now i've relied on the takers of my missions to IM me whenever the mission is broken so that i can fix it

also i've had to fix that over 5-6 times.. so in such case tagging alone will cause lot of confusion since mission tags are not editable
