Seeing as my both my posts on new Badges were lost due to forum issues, I'm reposting them here under a more appropriate title. New Badge ideasIn the form of "Related Service (Possible name)"
Most of there very popular services and certainly much more visited than Perez Hilton and whatnot. I will leave the kind of triggers you want for each badge to the team ;) Hope you like them and I'll keep posting here in case I think of more. If anybody else wants to post here, they are welcome but I would propose we stick to the same format if possible |

"# Ebay (Barterer) - Possibly needs to track the other domains as well such as ebay.de etc"
"# A badge for visiting a URL nobody else on PMOG has been to within a week. This one's probably tricky to work out, but it would encourage people to diversify!" Way too easy. Like *way* too easy. ajsdgagdfiafds.faketld coming right up. |

I would love to have a badge for Google Reader. Have it be awarded after reading 10,000 posts or something. |
pixielo![]() Level 20 Posts: 3706 |
And how would Pmog know how you read the feeds if you use a reader?
Hmmm... |
db0![]() Level 12 Posts: 111 |
Indeed a way to track feed reads would be impossible with the extension which is why I did not propose it. The only way I could see it happening is if google provided an API that PMOG could use for that purpose. |

It would be nice if there were some new types of badges to earn. So far we mainly only have only two types, those based on visiting a URL a certain number of times and using a certain number of a particular tool. It would be great if we could have some badges based on other types of acheivements. Some possible ideas (and I'm the first to admit to not being of the creative type):
As much as I love earning badges I don't think there should be many more URL based badges. They are easy to earn and don't even represent how people are surfing the web as many people use an rss reader for these popular sites and/or visit the URL only for the sake of gaining the badge (guilty!). It's the challenging badges that are fun to get and feel worthy of bragging about when you get them - like the Indie Badge or the highest level item use badges. Oh, and I love that idea of a badge for the hungersite or for freerice (maybe generating some large amount of rice)! |

I would love a forum posts badge, and a FreeRice badge! |

To tell the truth, I would like a badge depending on how many posts you leave on blogs and journals (like wordpress and blogspot). It is already doable by other Fx extentions (cocomments) so part of the source should be available already (I guess) And yes, +1 for forum posts |

For del.icio.us maybe it could track how much you are bookmarking ;) |

Here's a thought: a "web weaver" badge for someone who consistently (over some # of weeks, some # of times per week) uses more than one distinct browser (that is, Firefox on different platforms and/or different versions of FF). Should be easy enough from the User-Agent string that browsers send... |
db0![]() Level 12 Posts: 111 |
PMOG only works in Firefox and Flock at the moment. However if they do manage to get it to work on IE, Opera, Safari and Konqueror, perhaps a different badge for each browser might be appropriate (Firefox user, IE user etc) |
rjray![]() Level 7 Posts: 23 |
I meant different platforms, and different versions of FF. The badge is targeted at people who do web development, and thus are frequently testing sites and pages on different platforms. For example, in a typical week I'll use FF2 on Linux, Mac and Windows XP. With FF3 about to release, I'm going to have to start testing that one, as well, which will effectively double the number of FF-specific platforms (which isn't counting the two versions of IE, Safari on two platforms, and other browsers I have to worry about). Hey, I can't be the first person to propose a badge that would be a gimme :-). |

Well, technically pixielo DID support a badge based on forum post count :P |

shard Level 20 Posts: 130 |
Worst badge idea ever. It just screams "troll our forum!!" You'll get soooo much spam. |
pixielo![]() Level 20 Posts: 3706 |
Yeah, I guess it does scream that...

Hmmm... I wondered what the heck had happened. Figured it was just a glitch of some sort. Guess not! |
