My associations are (before level 5): Seer/Benficiary/Vigilante. My status page says that I've used
2 armor, 2 crates, 1 lightpost, 1 mine, 22 portals, and 0 st.nicks.
So how did I get Vigilante even though I supposedly used 0 st.nicks? I don't like st.nicks, and it would SUCK to be stuck with a vigilante association when I hit level five.

While I'm here: I've laid more than one mine, despite what the status page says, but I spent about 20 of them... lay one mine and you get st.nicks up the yin-yang. Not a bug, just... being a destroyer is hard, man.

About 30 mines, 2 crates and I'm a primary benefactor, with no destroyer association...

The missions you take affect your association. Look at the association of the person who made the mission. Then decide if you want to take it.

Also you are never stuck with anything. To change simply take some missions of associations you want. You will change to them when you get more of those missions under your belt.

Don't worry about level 5. Just have fun.

Yeah, I managed to lay one mine since yesterday, and now I'm a Destroyer.
My usage is now "3 worn, 2 stashed, 4 lit, 1 laid, 22 deployed, 0 intervened," and my associations are Destroyer/Seer/Pathmaker.

Maybe I shouldn't worry so; that's so active of me.

That still doesn't alter the fact that your item use alone does not make your association. Missions taken have a huge impact. Larger than necessary, imo.
