So to do an "out of character" post where I shed my chaotic demeanor...

This "chaos/order" week has been a blast!

I love that so many people have been able to see it for what it's worth, and enjoyed the playful rivalries. I got a lot of chuckles out of it. I'm getting a lot of small crates on my page with the "LONG LIVE ORDER!" from many different people... probably people I crated or mined with "Long live Chaos!" lol

There have been some people, unfortunately who haven't "gotten" the whole playful rivalry thing... but overall I think everyone came around and it has been fun.

Y'all are good times! Great for when I need a "mind break" from the projects I'm working on. I only access PMOG from work, so it has become a healthy habit to keep me from going crazy designing steel connections or rebar detailing when I think my eyes are going to cross and roll back into my head.

Hear hear! I love that in the "rivalries" people are starting to really think about interesting ways to use the PMOG tools, and banding together for their cause :)

Agreed, it's been a lot of fun! I'd like to take the side of chaos, maybe, for a future battle but I'll probably get a lot of crap for that. For now though, I am definitely enjoying the role-playing. Long live order! :-)

Bah, we all change sides from time to time.

I dropped over 300 crates in pure benefactorness via the "Giving away DPs" thread, some crates containing MAXIMUM DP! For a level 9er that was rough.

Tides ebb and wane.

@Chetyre - Glad to see I wasn't the only one who didn't find the whole tag deletion thing very amusing. It actually happened twice to me.

It's been great and very entertaining, but I agree that tag deletion sucked.

Psh, tag deletion existed and happened long before Chaos Week.

If they were something so important you should have transferred the text to a more permanent medium to swoon over later. If it's of value, take care of it, don't leave your fresh pies on an open window sill in a starving neighborhood.

I think it was a neat 'meme' of Chaos to come up with.

I went around to many people's pages and did a "Chaos Week: Tags Flipped" and copypasta'd every tag into the flip-it-text-generator that would output characters vertically flipped from the originals... I only did it for people with a dozen or so or less tags, because it just got to be a real PITA to copy and paste between tabs over and over...

It was just all in fun. Bottom line... if the tags really meant something to you, you would have saved them... you can't blame what could only be EXPECTED to happen on anyone but yourself.

I too loved the two weeks. Dang, as a powerful proponent of chaos, I've still be dragged into helping the order week. (Shhh, Don't tell) It's kinda infectious. I love this game. It's actually incredibly entertaining and easy to play. Makes the whole internet an adventure. What will happen when it gets really big? Mines on EVERY page! constant RT nicking!
It'll be fun.

@nieman Sorry but that is a load of BS. Blame the victim and not the criminal is the sorry state that our society has fallen into. Even if you leave the key to your car in the ignition it is still the criminal's fault if your car is stolen. As a noob I didn't even realize that others could delete tags from your personal page. This isn't somethng that is obvious until it happens. While anyone can leave a crate on your page you are the only one who can loot that crate so why should tags act any differently.

"Even if you leave the key to your car in the ignition it is still the criminal's fault if your car is stolen."

Legally yes. Morally, justfully, and rightfully? you were a dumb sh*t for leaving your keys in the car and you got just what was coming to you.

"As a noob I didn't even realize that others could delete tags from your personal page. This isn't somethng that is obvious until it happens."

Now you know... life goes on. No biggie!

No it is a sad state of out society that we except crime so readily and bend over backwards to make excuses for criminals. OH my that poor person would have never been tempted to steal your car if you hadn't tempted them by leaving your keys in your car. I'm sorry that is such crap. Stealing is no less wrong just because the theft was simple to accomplish.

Just because you have the ability to erase someone's tags doesn't mean that it is something that should be done. Someone posted a thread about people who drive others from the game. Personally getting my tags deleted almost was the end of this game for me. It will probably be simular types actions that will be the end of this game for me in the future. Games are about fun. Once it stops being fun, for what ever reason, it is time to get out.

I actually do keep my tags in a separate file, just because they have been deleted multiple times before. However, this time MANY people got all of their tags deleted with a little smiley face. Before, nobody could delete tags and this caused some profiles to be filled with highly inappropriate tags. Now, the fix is ANYONE can delete tags (which I don't understand the reasoning behind, but if that's the way it's got to work then so be it).

Mining somebody's page fifty times is all in good fun, and gets the user using tools and such. Deleting tags does nothing except for making the user angry, especially if they have tags that they like. It just seems a lot more childish considering you can't see who did anything about your tags.

The tag deletion sucked. We feel strongly about this. I have made a backup of my tags on my local hard drive to prevent a loss if it happens again. But I'm more fascinated than upset, and here's why.

PMOG is a game, but in the broader sense it's an experiment. The powers-that-be gave us some tools, set some rules (controversial rules, sometimes, that don't really make sense to anybody but the trustees) and then for the most part sat back to let us just figure things out.

I'm enjoying watching the evolution of our little culture. The datapoint economy is fascinating to start with; but look at all the new things that have arisen, like puzzle missions and missions-as-commentary, torch wars, portal races, the DP lottery, and so on. I'm amazed at how the little things in PMOG have taken on a life of their own.

The profile tags are a weird one to me. I've never seen tags on profiles on other sites, and the decision to allow anyone to delete or change them seems odd. I'm sure someone thought it made sense. If nothing else, it's also been an interesting experiment. Who would have predicted that we would grow to love our tags so much? That their sudden deletion would be received with such intense frustration? I agree that it was awful, but it's still an observation worth making.

Don't give up on PMOG! Getting frustrated by the small stuff isn't worth it. Instead, learn to love the experiment. Who knows where it will lead next?

I propose a middle ground. The keys in car analogy isn't black and white. We all agree that if someone takes a car with its keys in the ignition it's an illegal act. It's still stealing. However I don't feel sorry for the victim. Idiocy should be punished. If it was there'd be far less of it.
In other words, we're not saying "Bawww, poor criminal, tempted by the keys" We're saying "Dumb kid got his car stolen, Hope they catch the asshole, but man.. really"

Yes it sucks to get tags all deleted. I've had mine changed daily 'cos people think its funny. But the whole point is they're transient! It's what people think of YOU! People don't always agree, so things get changed. I'm not saying we should forgive those tag editors who delete everything, I'm merely saying the price we pay for freedom, is abuse of that freedom by a select few. The only way to fix it is to make tags undeletable by the public at large, and I'm sorry, but sometimes tags need deleting. Open government an' all.
The alternative is maybe restricting tag editing to certain level's. Perhaps when you reach level ten you get to edit tags? That might restrict idiocy at least...

I have a backup of my tags also, but the night it happened I put them back at least 5 times, only to find within 30mins they were gone again.

It was a good effort by whoever did it, even though it was annoying.

anyway, here is a crate with 500Dp and some mines for the next person to visit this page,

Having my tags flipped was not amusing, nieman. Especially because it was the same day I had restored them all from having been deleted. You also deleted some of the ones I was proud of in the process, like my original "Tags Erased" tag. I understand it was Chaos week, but deleting someone's tags seems more malicious than fun. Especially because I had long since gone to the step of making it acquaintances only. I don't want to make them Allies-only or Private because that sort of defeats the purpose of having them.

Knowing that someone on my acquaintances list was screwing with my tags felt kind of like knowing your next door neighbor that's been your next door neighbor for like ten years is the one who just toilet-papered your yard. They probably thought it was hilarious. They didn't have to clean it up.

I started a tag on my page called tagastrophe.

I found it pretty easy to reconstruct a bunch because of the auto suggest function. I had 2 tagastrophes though, so harder to remember.

Chaos week was great fun, much more fun than cratey week, but as I chose to be omnitoolial I got to do both!

Did you all notice how it fell to two teams, Chaos and Order, consisting of maybe four or five people per, and then an entire army of the "morally ambiguous" peoples? It was interesting to observe the omnitoolians, Fence sitters one and all!

What does THAT say about the human race?

Oh my freaking god.

Someone got a stick-puller? Proctologist in the house?

Are you so seriously out of touch with perspective that you akin a random user-created tag list modification to a freaking STOLEN CAR!?

Get a damned life! It's a game!

I'm not even going to bother constructing a post trying to reason or justify myself because I feel I'd be speaking to a wall of masonry built with bricks of QQ.

Seriously, what's so damned precious about your pwecious widdle tags? *bats eye lashes*

It's not like it doesn't have a list that remembers all the tags you were given that automatically drops down at the first letter typed in the box...
