I'd like to start by saying that if anything I say here is wrong, feel free to tell me...I wouldn't really know since I don't place many light posts.

First off, I'd like to see a confirmation pop up before placing a light post. It's probably my own stupidity, but when I was trying to create a mission I clicked on a light post, but didn't see any confirmation it had been placed. Going with the theory of "if it didn't work the first time, click really fast", I ended up losing 6ish light posts before realizing there was just a lot of browser lag.

That brings me to my next point. If you've already placed a light post on a site, you shouldn't be allowed to place another. It might not happen to people often but it'd be nice to not accidentally waste things.

Lastly, I'd like to be able to delete light posts. I could see the problem this would cause with broken missions...however, I've accidentally (and really don't know how I did this, probably something to do with tabs) light posted a few sites I didn't want to. For example, I know that I didn't mean to light post "http://digg.com/page4", and will never have a need for it in a mission. So, shouldn't I be able to delete it? Perhaps this could be solved with the confirmation box (i.e. "Place a light post at blah.com?").

Please note I'm not sure if this is also how portals, crates, and mines work as well...I pretty much only use St. Nick's ;P

Hmm...I think that may be difficult--and that it would be difficult to discern between players while they are deploying lightposts. As it is, it seems to take a bit for the lighpost confirmations to come through during peak times.

But how to differentiate between you and another player who would like to use the same page in a mission? That would probably cause even more server lag.

I accidentally lit a lightpost right on this page by accident. It used to happen all the time.

My solution to this 'issue,' is completely low-tech and easy. I just do not deploy lightposts at all while browsing. I copy the links into a text file--I write all my descriptions there and outline my mission plan. I then use the 'Add a Lightpost' field in the Mission Generator to manually add them in--it totally makes everything easy.
Is this the way PMOG was envisioned to work? Nope.
Is this the easiest way to *not mess up a mission and waste lightposts?* For me, yes.

Actually, I think this might already be sort of done. Lightpost info is sent to your FF extension along with all the other stuff when you visit a site. It would just need wiring up to check that your user ID does not have a lightpost on that page in the FF extension logic.

A dev might want to confirm this?

Another question: why is it that some pages won't accept lightposts? I've often had a site that I've either tried to lightpost while *at the site*, have it not work, then try it in the manual field on the actual mission page. Anyone have any ideas why some pages are like this?

Usually if it won't accept a lightpost on the page, it won't work when you type it in manually for the mission. Usually its due to frames, since pmog doesn't seem to like frames as far as I can tell.

@pixielo:
That's actually a pretty smart idea, and I'll probably do this the next time I make a mission. However, I believe you are correct in saying this is probably not how light posts were meant to be used ;P That's why I was suggesting a fix for this. I'm no coder or anything so I wasn't sure if it was feasible.

@evegrimm it's probably just chance, the servers may have been to busy to accept the lightpost drop from the actual site.
