As missions grown more sophisticated, perhaps some conventions are in order to aid in discussion and flowcharting. I am just throwing some ideas out there to get things rolling.

I) Terms.

Pathmaker: the mission creator.
Traveller: the mission participant.
Node: Any page accessed during travel.
Road: All nodes in the mission are connected beginning to end by lightposts with no redirection or jumps.
Trail: A long string of nodes connected by lightposts with no redirection or jumps.
Path: A short string of nodes. The shortest path consists of two lightposts.
Branch: A node offering multiple travel options.
Twig: A side path which dead ends or loops and is unnecessary to complete the mission.
Loop: A path which repeats itself through redirection.
Wilderness: A disconnected node.

II) Modes of Travel.

Enter: The begin this mission jump.
Progression: Moving forward in the mission, typically towards the conclusion.
Regression: Moving backwards to a previously visited node.
Redirection: A node which forcibly sends the traveller to another node, a lightpost with tinyurl etc.
Lightpost: Allows progression and regression.
Jump: Using methods other than lightposts to change nodes: portals, pagelinks, entering url, browser buttons etc.
Portal: A one-time progressive jump with an optional regression to return.
Hyperlink: Use of a hyperlink to make a progressive jump.
Datalink: Entering a new URL in your browser or information into a search engine to travel to the next node.
Translink: Using your browser's forward and back buttons to move between nodes creating temporary paths or roads.
Exit: The complete this mission jump.

Twig is eh. Just sounds funny when I try to use the context you suggest in a sentence.

Rest in interesting.
