Recently I've fallen in love with PMOG. At the same time, I am an avid virtual world interloper, and earn my livelihood in Second Life developing content. Opening up the possibility of missioning in virtual worlds is an exciting prospect. This is especially true for Second Life because the tools for skipping around the SL map, to and from webpages and virtual locations are already in place. SL has integrated building and scripting tools that would allow the easy creation of an in-world PMOG Heads Up Display, acting just like the Firefox toolbar. I imagine the ability to take missions that leap from web, to virtual world and back again. Interoperability is the biggest issue, but it's quickly becoming less of an issue as initiatives like open-standards for avatar appearance, and virtual world architecture work groups continue to grow. (Already with the Second Life client, it's possible to go between the official SL grid, and reverse-engineered, privately hosted grids that have different features.) Obviously not everyone would want to take missions that go into Second Life, but it certainly couldn't do any harm. If anything it would foster more exploration, both from PMOG players that have never visited SL, and SL users that have never heard of PMOG! Any thoughts? |
