How long do portals last? Is it based on time, number of times used, or some other factor? Also, why are they so dang expensive?!

I've been told they work for 50 uses, and that each user could click through them just once.

That said, when the missions page was busted, I put a portal out to route people past the 500 page to an alternative listing ... and I burned through them at the peak rate of 1 per 20 mins (about 12 over 7 hours) -- and it just doesn't seem to me like we have THAT many users roaming through (and clicking the same portal'd page over and over again.)

...

Well, unless it was the same 50 people, chewing through each portal as soon as it was made, just to play with my mind ...

That's a little lame, it really should depend on their rating...

It would also be nice if I could tell if my portal was still in service, especially since once you've taken a portal it no longer shows up. (Again, I think that's how it works.)

All in all, some functional documentation to go with the tool descriptions would be invaluable.

@86400: I agree. Wouldn't it be awesome if PMOG sent you a message saying "Your portal at http://somepage going to http://somepage has faded away into nothingness." or some such note?

Or even better, a page to manage portals, similar to lightposts - on that page, it shows you the listing of all the portals you've laid, their URL, their destination, and status. And to re-lay a portal, all you have to do is click a "renew" checkbox and then a "renew all checked portals" at the bottom of the page, for an equivalent portal purchase cost to renew each portal. That way, important portals you want to keep don't require you to run all around laying them down again every time.

Please see my other thread for suggestions on extra-durable portals, too. ( http://pmog.com/forums/gameplay/... )

I would like to see stats on all the tools. A page to keep track of my unopened crates would be great, for example. And after crates are opened, maybe a record of when they were opened, what was inside, and who got the goodies. Likewise for every other tool, they could all benefit from something like this.

And how much more data would PMOG's server hamsters have to run through everyday? A lot more?

Um... yes please?

We're all okay with waiting a week to get super-detailed updates, aren't we? ;-)
