I posted a thread about mission ratings months ago, and this is a follow up to that.

The ratings do a good job of showing us really good missions and really bad missions, and not much else.

Unfortunately, since most peoples expectations vary wildly from person to person, and most of the time someones expectations from a mission are what determine their rating of that mission, most missions tend to skew towards the middle, even somewhat good missions.

I have a couple suggested changes to help make ratings more useful:

* Meta-moderating the ratings system; this means for every star rating you give out- other people, just like you, will be selected at random to give a thumbs up or a thumbs down to that rating.

* Instead of a single star system, have 2 or 3 different aspects that a mission can be rated on with stars. That way you can represent something like, "I like the mission, and I learned something new, but I'll probably never go back to those sites", or "I didn't really learn anything new, but I'll be back to those sites as I found the game there interesting" with stars.

Thanks for reading :)

Interesting ideas. I find I struggle with the ratings, because what I look for in a mission is very different to what most people seem to expect, so when setting the threshold to 3 stars or higher, I miss many of the interesting lesser travelled missions, but not having that on leads to the 'my mini city' equivalents. The meta-moderating you suggest seems highly infeasible, but the rating of different aspects sounds very promising.

It would be a neat idea to have subratings, but let's be honest--more people are going to rate missions if they only have to click one thing.

Hopefully it will get added someday.

you could just add more stars. Like 8 or 10.

I want the ability to rate a mission halfway in.
If someone makes a 20 page long mission... I really shouldn't have to walk all the way down it to rate it as "painful", "self-serving", or "pedantic".

Good point, microwavedboy.

Sometimes I am unable to finish a mission or it is so bad that I just give up and cannot give it a rating.

Perhaps the thing to do in that case would be simply not to complete it?

Do you really want to acknowledge a mission that awful anyway? And generally I've found that most missions that ARE that long are pretty decent. I'm not sure I've seen any really long ones that were awful. If it's just a DP mission, you're not looking at sites anyway.
