civilized discourse for an uncivilized gameworld

I think that a discussion of the dynamics of employing portals and theming missions is an important one for seers. So if you find any of the topics below interesting, feel free to discuss. Seers are the only association that can be simply "shut out" by an individual who sets the portal threshold to "5" in the toolbar. This, piled with the exorbitant price of portals and the browser-breaking portal animation, make Seers the whipping boy of PMOG. Portal talk: Rickrolling vs. Referencing. Do you rate well-placed rickroll portals with 1 or 5 stars? Do you lay portals mischeviously, or helpfully? Any novel uses for portals? Do you even use other players' portals, yourself? I hope that we can encourage some spirited Seer-centric talk! |

So far, my portals have been laid so as to link useful references that I think most people would not necessarily know about - for instance, two similar webcomics, if one of them is less well known than the other, etc. If I got caught in a rickroll, I would only give it a good vote if it was truly funny; otherwise I'd be inclined to vote 1 or 2. |

I'd agree with epicurus; if it's a well-planned joke, it'll get a high rating. If it's in bad taste, a 1 is due. I use all portals I come across. Though I'm not exactly a Seer by any means, the portals I have and will plant will be helpful only. I'm not the type to play jokes on people. |

I also Imagine portals to be there for helpfulness. I tend towards the side of those carrying the torch of order, and seer is the only association where I break with that. I like linking people to new things, but an idea I read somewhere else on the forum seemed interesting. Suppose you find a mission for some topic, say ninjas. You could put portals on the pages of that mission linking to different sites about Pirates, and so make a pirate countermission which would lure people away. It's an interesting Idea, but I would like to figure out how to use portals more effectively. I thought it might be enjoyable to make sort of a game within a game of portals, provide choices which gradually lead to a result. |

One Rickroll, meatspin, etc. from a player earns mines, and goes on my 'do not take ever' list...trust is easy to earn, and even easier to lose... |

The portal I just posted shows a number of "extreme sports". It's somewhat experimental, and is sort of a portal mission. everything is webbed together, I'll be messing with adding a mission cue, more portals, a few crates, and whatever else suits my fancy. Whether or not interested in subject matter, some ideas for innovative use of tools would be magnificent. |

Here's a shoatish question, I guess, but I don't recall seeing an answer to this one... I saw on another forum topic that portals are just one-use items. Is that true? Do portals disappear the first time someone goes through them? Or do they have a duration, but each person can only use them once? I'm a little hazy on how portals work, but I think seer might be a fun way to play. |

I believe portals last for 50(?) uses. A single player can only use a portal once, however - then the portal stops showing up for that person. |

I must admit, and I possibly shouldn't, that I love portals, especially when I am on a mine laying outing. I take a fellow PMOGers portal, rate it accordingly then lay a mine for the next user. muahahahaha |

and this is why portals are classed among the tools of chaos. |
