(rarting = rating, it's regional dialect you see!)

wouldn't it be nice to check on a user's rating before taking one of their missions? hovering over their name in the yellow window to reveal a 5 star rating or have their user rating in the mission window rather than that mission rating would, to me, mean more than the one we have implemented now. At least I know if this 0 star rating by a 4 star pathmaker would be worthwhile taking over a 3 star rating (taken once) by a 1 star user who posts eveywhere around teh pmog site.

This could be carried on elsewhere, so we know who are the top vigilantes, benefactors etc

I would also like to bring in my previous post about portal rating, I would like to see the numbers in/remaining uses and a current rating of my portal displayed on my userpage, also if my mine or crate has been triggered (or better still, available) while I'm offline, it would be good to have that listed in my userpage too. For a destroyer for example, this would be useful to know the amount of destruction that could be caused by relaying mines on a previous site

While I like the idea, I worry that it might inspire a different level of griefing.. cold-hearted users one-starring other Passivists solely for the sake of disrupting their ratings, much like the folks that go around laying 1209357889724 mines on an individual's profile. Then if their rating gets ruined, it reflects upon every mission they create, rather than a couple 1-stars by folks who didn't like the subject matter messing with an individual mission's rating.

'Course, I imagine PMOGers are a little more mature than the average gaming demographic. I have very little faith in humanity, though. >.>

As an aside, when deciding if a mish is worth taking, I like to go off the number of times its been favorited, rather than the rating.

Hey, it could go either way. I wouldn't mind having both options, and seeing both displayed on the mission page. More information = Happiness.

The Internet brings out my Inner Pessimist.

If the ratings issued by each person were weighted according the the average rating they give to people you might get more accurate results.

So if someone is super-happy and gives everyone 10/10 this doesn't mean much, similarly 1/10 people don't get much weight.
But if a super-happy person then gives 1/10 to someone then it's likely that their rating is meaningful!

I've done rating systems like this for a few projects that I've worked on, for the most part they're pretty good!

Great idea Piku!

So long as griefing won't become an issue, I'd really like a way to rate pathmakers. If people consistently make brilliant missions, they should be noticed. I for one know that I would take their missions.

It may be hard for a pathmaker just starting out, but as with anything, it takes a while to build a reputation.
