I'm baffled. I sure as heck didn't earn a Seer association before taking my vacation (I don't take portals and sadly avoid Seer missions), but I log back on and there it is: Seer as primary association. Benefactor (what I actually DO here) nowhere to be seen. I never even got to be a Stoat. Pmog made me a seer from the very get-go. There is something VERY wrong with the associations system. More Seers mean that most missions end up being under the Seer class, means that people like me end up skipping interesting missions because we can't do a single Seer thing without becoming one! Heck, apperently I can't even go visit family without donning that wretched little bowler hat! |

Missions no longer count towards your association.

brammimonde, what do you want to be? If it's Benefactor, Bedouin, or Vigilante, I'll drop a couple of the relevant items on your profile. If it isn't... I'm not really a lot of help. |

I drop crates like crazy. I dropped one just a while ago, so I shall test the theory that one crate and no other tool use will change my association, davidsev. Thank you very much for the news, sadcat. I look forward to taking all the great-looking seer mission I've passed up! |

The thing is that if you're gone and you have portals out there, if someone takes one while you're gone you'll get Seer points. As mentioned already, missions don't count anymore. Associations are getting calculated more often, too, so use a couple of crates and you'll be back to benefactor in no time! |

What? They changed it so missions don't affect it? What if you got stuck (Like me) as a pathmaker/seer before the change and (Unlike me) didn't have fifty mines and st. nicks lying around? How are you supposed to change back from the arbitrary associations PMOG gives you? I just got back from a week AFK to find I'd lost my Vigilante and Destroyer associations! Can they at least switch it so missions have a MINOR effect, so that people with no items in their possession can fix their associations without trading, when PMOG decides to randomly, for no reason, assign them to new associations that in no way relate to the items they've been using or missions they take? |

I think that part of the fun of this game is that player cooperation is encouraged--this is when you trade with your fellow Pmogeons. Look in the trading forums, check out your acquaintances, heck, ask me! In terms of what you are calling 'randomly, for no reason' reassignment of Associations, think of it this way--you went uber-Passive by not playing for a week. Thus, your Tool use stats changed dramatically...to the most passive of the Associations, Bedouin. A lot of people also find themselves as Seers, even, as many claim that 'they hadn't dropped a Portal in ages.' Portals are active for 50 uses, and so generate classpoints for long after you've deployed them. Bedouin Armour reacts when you hit a mine, so if you've run over a few in your first hours back, that would turn your Associations quickly.

This phenomenon happens to me as well, after as few as 3 days of being computer-free. I change to Seer and Pathmaker almost instantly although I've never (ever! [ever ever!]) in my pmog career dropped a portal or a light post. I understand the reason behind it, but boy howdy does this irritate me when I get back. Don't crucify me, but I miss mission metrics. :( |

Changing associations based on what you use is good.
This "Auto-setting everyone to Seer/Pathmaker for inactivity" is infuriating. |

But that's just it...if you have deployed a Portal, it will continue to give you classpoints...and if you take one, that also gives you classpoints... Early on in beta, Lightposts were accidentally awarding classpoints...and it may be possible that a fraction could be still be awarded for a mission that you made.

sunyavadin, I understand your frustration, and I think I mostly agree with you, but I'm pretty sure there will always be a way for people to get out of undesired associations: going on the forums and asking if anyone will give or cheaply sell them the tools they need to switch. |

I have never, ever deployed even a single portal, but when im inactive for a couple of days, I get reverted back to seer (and pathmaker and bedouin if i remember rightly) the only way around it I've found is to drop a couple of crates whenerver I'm online, hoping to win back my benefactor status. Feel free to take the crates I left here to keep my association =] |

@Howarth Right on. I understand that quite a few players have not deployed a single Portal, yet have still ended up with Seer as part of their Associations. You can rest assured that lots of bits and pieces of code are being looked at in order to ascertain why this is happening...

An update: Suttree just committed a fix that now double-checks to make sure not to award a specific association to a user who hasn't used a single instance of that tool in 72 hours. It may take some time for this fix to make it to live, so please be patient and report back by the weekend if this is still occurring. |

Awesome news! I too have been the recipient of a few random associations. I think this change will more accurately reflect the intention of the game. |
sunyavadin![]() Level 12 Posts: 60 |
Great to see prompt addressing of the problem!

@burdenday: What happens if they don't use *any* tools for 72 hours? |
|
burdenday Trustee ![]() Level 14 Posts: 907 |
@davidsev: Your associations are not calculated at all. You will remain whatever you were before. |
sunyavadin![]() Level 12 Posts: 60 |
Except that's not what's happening.
To test this I'll not be using any mines or St Nicks in this time... |

@Sunyavadin Okay...so you are not taking any Portals, or currently deploying any Portals...but have you ever placed a Portal? If you have, and it is still active, then when players take it, you get Seer classpoints... |
lavvyan![]() Level 10 Posts: 11 |
I have never placed a single portal, ever, and I still regularly get classed as a Seer, so I don't think that's it. ;) |

Lavvyan, sorry, my reply was not aimed at you...read Burdenday's posts for what's up with your Associations...

I ONCE placed a portal, many moons ago. In fact I've been hoping there may be a way to DELETE portals you've placed, since that was waaaaay back in the mists of time and I placed one going to a completely random site, just for the hell of it. Not something I'd ever do now. The same way that if I'd ever made a mission with all my favourite webcomics I'd be able to delete that. |

Tough cookies, it seems. I have some portals I regret too, though. |
lavvyan![]() Level 10 Posts: 11 |
Pixielo, I'm not enough of an active player to be bothered by changing associations. I just found it amusing that I was classed as a Seer again and again despite my distinctly un-Seer-like behaviour. ;) |
