OK, what's going on? I'm trying to create a mission. Fair enough, one of the links didn't seem to want to work, so I killed it. Then it jumped a couple of the others, went to the last but one, returned to an earlier one , went to the end then told me there was a problem.

No - really?

I killed the whole mission, left it a couple of days and tried a new approach today. This time, 2 PMOG boxes refused to appear. What made it even more bizarre was that when I used an independent tab to look at one of the links, the PMOG box came up!

Meanwhile, I had the continuity problem again.
I've had Firefox 3 for a while, it works, I've not had too many problems with PMOG, so why this?

On a related note - I just re-took one of my missions and noticed that the lightposts were out of order. I spent some time ordering them correctly (they were right when I first made it, 3 months ago), but had some trouble getting the new order to stick.

I got to the place where I was taking the mission myself, and 1) the lightposts were *still* out of order and 2) the mission wouldn't complete (it did before I started re-ordering).

Eventually, I gave up and now the mission has completely disappeared!

I'm sad - it was my favorite mission.

Well, at least to rebecca's problem: a while ago, do you remember when missions were broken for about a week and they rolled out a fix? That fix ended up breaking some of the mission made earlier, and threw their light posts out of order. I'd suggest running through your other mission as well to see if those light posts got screwed up.

The other ones seem okay. I am disappointed that trying to rearrange the lightposts on the one somehow deleted it, though.

Good news! I started poking around and found my old mission under my mission drafts. This time I was able to successfully rearrange my lightposts and publish the mission. So my mission problem is solved.

When you edit a mission it effectively unpublishes itself to your drafts folder, and then when you're done editing it, it republishes the mission. That's why it will also show up as "created 1 minute ago" after editing.

I tried to edit a mission yesterday. I just wanted to change the mission description, but it wouldn't let me do that, saying, "You can only publish this bad boy once!" or some such. So then I removed one of the lightposts, put it back in, and retested the mission, so that I'd be able to republish it. And... I got a different failure message.

@Sadcat Can we know what that message was? Could you take a screenshot for us? Image Shack has excellent free image hosting; then we could see what's going on.

hello PMOG.
i've yet to create any missions because i've had many many but many errors! in old missions i started a long time ago i could not get to the "organize" mission page (i got the 500 error?) so i eventually killed them. one mission i did keep, i managed to get to the organizing page in recent days. after lots of non working lightposts (most likely not PMOG's fault), i finally collected a set to make my mission but realized they were out of order. after reordering them, i tested my mission. the second lightpost (which used to be the last) has the "complete this mission" link. if i go to "previous" then it goes through my mission in reverse! i went back and tried to reorganize/edit the mission but i am still getting the same error. i then deleted all my lightposts and built my mission again in the correct order. besides not saving my descriptions after removing the lightposts and readding them, i still get the wrong order when i test the mission out. also, clicking the "complete this mission link" takes me back to the pmog missions page and a message that says "there was an error!".
any help is appreciated!

other info:
i'm on a mac.
i use fire fox 2.0.0.14, no other extensions.
i have the latest pmog version.

Did you wait an hour or two to see if PMOG updated its cache?
That's usually what is going on when you get the 'Complete' link on an earlier page after you've re-ordered your mission.
Only 'panic' after a day or so...

Huh... I swear it gave me an error message, but I just checked again, and the description was changed the way I wanted. Maybe this is an example of "wait a day to panic."

But then why would I have gotten an error?

Well, in any case, no, I cannot redo it and take a screenshot, because there's no problem now.

Okay...but did any of it help? Were you able to get a mission working? Did waiting help? Clearing your cache, etc.?
As much as I like trying to give gameplay advice, I'd love to know what works!

Thanks!

yes, mission is now up and working!
waiting helped, i didn't have to clear my cache.
i think i just panicked too soon.
and thinking back, i must've been frustrated because i edited light posts, etc. and didn't wait long enough so it seemed like every time i tried to make a mission it wasn't working. and then i'd get grouchy, leave pmog for a few days then come back and try to edit my mission and then get a 500 error.
my bad.
what have i learned from pmog?
patience.
:)

Right - I managed in the end to get my mission up, although it was much different to what I hoped. I did notice that one page just did not want to show its PMOG box, so I had to lose it (pity - it was a good 'un).

However, I have no idea still why it decided to skip steps - even after leaving it a day and going back to it.
Ah well.

@Spikeyboy Did any of the situations outlined in this post occur with your mission?

Hmm - it's possible that some of the urls for the Youtube videos had dodgy characters, so that may explain that - although the lightpost pas accepted in the first place.

My main problem was with the my chosen links not running in order - some were being skipped over. One one occasion, it even went back to a link and then to the final one! Even then, not all the links had been visited.

**UPDATE**

I've just seen another forum post about Youtube and it suggests setting it to Global, so I shall be doing that for the future!

I had a different bug with my last mission, http://pmog.com/missions/program.... It never came out of "testing mode" even after I published it, so I'm was not getting DP for each person taking it but I did get DP for their comments. I thought erasing it would fix the issue, but after I recreated it, I still experience the same issue. Is there some way to fix this?

@lordlorik,

It currently under "generated" and I took the mission without it appearing anyway to be in testing mode to me.

What did you see that made you believe it was in testing mode?

The "testing" message and not getting the DP after 3 guys took it.

@Lordlorik It will never come out of 'Testing' mode; every single time you take one of your own missions, you are testing it.

As far as the dp goes, I believe that could be a lag issue, especially if the new datapoint/rating system is being implemented right now. In which case, you won't get 10 dp per player, but a number of dp per star...hmmm...like 8 dp per 4 stars I think...

Burdenday? Got some input?

I don't think anything is actively being implemented at this very moment -- so it's probably just latency.

Lordlorik - I agree that when you take any of your own missions even after you have finished setting it up successfully, you will always see the 'testing' stamp.

The thing is, you shouldn't be getting any points etc off it - all you would be doing is taking a look through for maintenance purposes...
