I know I've already mentioned this to a few of the trustees, but its been a week, and I haven't been able to get in touch with any lately. I have an exceptionally long mission in my "Drafts" section. When I test it, all the links and pages work perfectly. But when I hit complete mission, it redirects me to the PMOG Missions page, and says "Something Went Wrong" in a yellow bar across the top. Wondering if theres any progress on this, or a fix yet. Thanks for your patience! |

I've had a similar error: the fifth item in my mission has the description of the first and links to the second. |

Etherel15, I had the same problem also. I went back and hit complete repeatedly for about 20 minutes before it finally worked. Which is what I was advised to do. :\ |

I'm not sure if anyone can help. I am working on testing my second mission. In the edit screen, all the light posts work. In the test screen, the light posts won't show up. Sometimes the light post will show up, but disappears before I can do anything. I've noticed the same thing when I take missions. Any ideas? |

I think I'm having the same problem. I made my first attempt at making a mission...just now. When I got to the 3rd step, testing the mission, nothing worked. When I hit the "test" button in step 2..all links are working. No matter what site I try to start with, nothing works when I test the mission. Any advice? |

Yeah!! I got it working!! I scrapped my entire mission and started over, which says a lot when there are 51 lightposts. BUT, what I ended up doing, was going to the sites, placing the lightposts and making sure that as each lightpost was added it tested OK before adding the next. Took a while, but check it out..
Coming Soon: US Capital Tour - another 102 DP.. I just have to build up some more DP so I can buy enough lightposts!! LOL |

@bunni3burn Move your lightposts around...changing the order can help 'fix' a mission... |

I PM'd all of you having issues. Let me know if you didn't get it. |
bunni3burn![]() Level 15 Posts: 633 |
@pixielo I actually tried that. :( |

OK! I tried it all over again..and it works! I do have a quick question. Sometime when I come up on user's profiles...the box pops up to take their mission. How would I accomplish that from my profile?

In the process of making my first mission, and for some strange reason, it keeps caching things previous to when I edited them. I was going back and editing them because a couple of the sites I was using had frames, which the light posts don't really seem to like. Any ideas on this? |
bunni3burn![]() Level 15 Posts: 633 |
Ya and an update...my mission is broke again. Lightposts were wandering, so I edited them back like I already have done a few times. Then the whole thing went broke. Some of the lightposts are going in circles. As in when are taking the mission and click the "next button" it'll take you to a site that you before it. And you end up in a nasty maze/cycle of sites...never reaching the end. I haven't tested is for like for like 6 hours. It's possible it could have magically fixed itself.

Not working for me also. Circular path, "Something went wrong, sorry!", and other anoying messages are getting me crazy. Why is it so hard to create a simple 5 lightposts mission? |

I don't think it is the fact that missions are "simple" or what not, but with the complexities of all the different ways sites can be and probably a few bugs with the lightpost system as is, it just makes for a hit and miss mission making experience. So far I've had it pretty good. Found good sites that the posts work correctly on and only had a few issues that were resolved by taking out a few bad sites that didn't respond well to lightposts and rearranging a few here and there. Also, static sites (ones that the content, layout, etc... don't change much) seem to be more post friendly. Sites without frames, without dynamic customizations based on user or IP, without a bunch of redirection within the domains pages and sites without dynamically sized dimensions all seem to take well to posts. That's a little funny so let me rephrase:

Don't you think that there could some PMOG "features" (bugs) on the Mission Creation system? |
talbarran![]() Level 7 Posts: 1 |
I'm trying to create my first mission, and when I go to test it the "Complete this Mission" button appears on the 7th lightpost.. I have a few more listed! What can I do? ETA: I can be more clear about this. I have a list of, let's say, 11 items for the mission. The first time I tested, the link for the 6th one didn't work (the domain root forwarded to /blog/). So I created a new lightpost for the domain.com/blog/, which was added to the end of the list. I moved it back to position #6, copied the original description, and then deleted the original listing of #6. I tested it again. This time, after #5, I went to #6 correctly, but the "Complete this Mission" link appears on the bottom, even though I have #7-#11 listed after it. At this point, if I hit "Previous", it goes to #11, and from there correctly backwards until I get to #6 again with the "Complete this Mission" link. It appears that my #6 link exists as both #6 (when coming from #5) and an invisible #12; except that if I go to my #11 and hit "Next", it just refreshes that page, recognizing that it is the end. |

Of course there are some bugs in the mission creation system. The bugs really come out when you try to make missions using unconventional sites. Plain old static sites seem to work fine. The problem really is how to account for the practically unlimited number of ways a site can be created and delivered. Being familiar with web programming I can say that this is quite the task for the PMOG trustees. I'll go as far as saying that they might never have the mission system working 100% and even if they do, with the way web programming is developing, the next day a site would get put up that breaks the system. |

speaking of talbarran's issue, I had the same problem when trying to create a mission. I'd removed a lamp post for a site I found wasn't working, then added one that did in it's place. Except that I forgot to actually move it from the end of the list to the same place the original was. I came to realize it, moved the lamp post to it's proper spot in the order, and it would show up fine in the order of things, but every time I would get to that page, it would prompt me with the end mission button instead of carrying on past it to the next few pages. Also, an update on the caching issue I was having before. I let the mission I was having the issue with sit and stir in it's own juices for a day or so, and it now appears to be working flawlessly. I can't entirely confirm it wasn't a caching issue on my local machine, but I refreshed and cleared out the local web browser cache enough times that I really don't think it was a local issue. |

I have written an entry on the http://pmog.wikia.com/wiki/Main_... about that very problem ElderPyre. It should help you. |

direct link to emberdione's article for those unwilling to go looking http://pmog.wikia.com/wiki/Missi... also, it's elderpyre, not ElderPyre ;) |

http://pmog.com/forums/straturgy... A lot of things that have been discussed above are addressed in this thread...of course, if there were forum search, y'all would've found it by now! ; ) Theungodlyone touched on most of the common 'bugs' found with choice of sites, and site content...take a read and see if anything else clear up... Good luck! |
