Today while stumbling througha portal i discovered some jerkoff's portal took you to a page will malicious code which thankfully, my avast antvi virus code detected. perhaps instead of a rating system and a NSFW button, a NEW BUTTON should be added in addition,a report button, for bastard links such as this.

Excellent idea! Perhaps a computer bio-hazard button? Along with the report that would DISABLE the portal _immediately_ until it could be investigated and then restored or destroyed.

Also I'd be pretty suspicious of a player that purposely plants a portal off to malicious site.

A couple of years ago I has hit by a drive-by download ... and I had to re-install Windows in order to get rid of it. If you ask me, Portals to sites with malicious code should be flagged in the PMOG database and no Portals or Lightposts could ever be posted on that domain again.

Players that try to set Portals or Missions to these known sites should be flagged and quietly disposed of.

Is there a way that PMOG could partner with some anti-virus company to get a hold of known domains that should be currently on some black list? It would be pretty sweet to have a database that would not allow PMOGeons to stumble upon these unawares. For now community flagging is a quick fix. Thank you in advance all you Bedouins for taking the hit for us! :)

More excellent ideas czarchron!

I believe some of the security freeware out there already focuses on altering your web browser's security settings by adding a huge list of known malicious URLS.

I think SpywareBlaster does this, but I'm not certain as I haven't used it for a while now:

Or just a "report for abuse" button. I wish there was a button for that on the first portal.

Some asshat had a portal that went from a nice clean page to a furporn page the other day, that was NOT marked NSFW and was intentionally misleadingly titled. However, it went to a page where the portal rating box didn't appear, so there was no way to tag it for others.

I then went back and it would pop up but I couldn't interact with it in any way. I should have reported it, but was trying to hide my embarrassment as someone looking fover my shoulder asked me what I had been looking at :\

Oh that sucks - but these are great ideas. Thanks everyone we'll look into it.

Also, please e-mail these types of assaults on PMOG to abuse at pmog dot com.

Thanks for the heads up, Lordphrozen.

netizenbane is right. SpywareBlaster is a good one. you can also grab it's partner in crime, SpyBot.
Those should prevent the malware from getting on your computer. Instead of letting it get on your computer. Anti-viruses should only be used for what SpyBot can't stop.

I definitely agree with coming up with a way to prevent it from happening via portals.

lordphrozen: mine was a portal that disappeared when I reached its destination. When I went back things were bugging out and then later it wasn't there anymore. So, no.

I wish there was a way I could track the reaction to the portals I have created :( . . . That would be cool. Even if it was just private! Maybe even just their name and rating or my overall portal ratings.

I too had this happen... It took me to a rick roll style site (endless pop-ups), except with obscene porn pics. The portal did show up, but was instantly covered up by pop-ups that were getting worse so I quickly shut down firefox. Couldn't remember the page I was on before so I couldn't find the delinquent portal again.

Basically, I will pay more attention to the portal I take and who put the there in case this happens again.
