In the news column on my profile, it reads "you just updated their profile!" which means I updated my profile. I can count at least two USC Creative Writing graduates on GameLayers staff, and one (ex?)-professional journalist. I'm an asshole.

its just a coding oversight. for the mass majority of the cases, "$player just updated their profile" works. the only case of where it doesnt is when $player == $me->playername

aka... the'll fix it eventually.

that actually doesn't work either, as you end up with sentences like "justin just updated their profile" which would be correct for justin editing somebody else's profile, but not his own. i would use the player gender variable to read "justin just edited his profile" or use the generic "his or her" for players who have not yet entered their sex.

by the way, extended comments about grammar are a great way to enter sex.

The double pronoun was suggested as I saw its use elsewhere on the profile page, for players who have not filled out their information yet: "...player x, who is keeping his or her particulars a secret..."

It's probably not supposed to, but this thread is totally cracking me up! A battle to the death of the grammarians!
