Hello PMOGers. If you haven't noticed already, the world of PMOG is spitting out more and more Seers lately... people are saying that when they use a portal, Seer appears as one of their associations. I think you should do something to change this, because I took a lot of portals, but I don't really want to be a Seer...

ditto that. something seems a little weighted in that association. my understanding of the associations is that tools have less power than missions, but after i became a seer (yet again) yesterday, taking quite a few benefactor missions only pushed that association up to my secondary one and for quite a while now ive had trouble kicking it out of my top 3.

I always find it odd to look at the log of how many of each item I've used, see each item barely breaking double digits, but having my portals at 60-something.

It also only seems to count getting hit by mines and not actually laying them. Now that DEFINITELY doesn't make sense. Laying mines should make you a destroyer, not getting blown up by them.

When players hit your mines w/o armour, it counts. That's it.
Mines + no armour = hit
Deploying them doesn't mean that they'll go off, now, does it?
Otherwise I could get off mining the profiles of players who have left the game without fear of retribution or Nicking...

@MrBubbles Occasionally, an avatar as awesome as mine needs to take a short break to refresh its magical pixels...

I'm struggling against the Seer association too. I rarely take portals and have given all of mine away (I'm more of a lamplighter). I take two interesting missions written by seers (because there are so gosh darn many of them could be struggling to get other associations as much as I am) and I'm--BAM-- secondary Seer again.

Weirdest thing, the game started me out as a seer. I never had the stoat association. :/

Bonus: There are so many seers it's getting hard to take missions for your desired association!

Sadly I got nailed with Seer because two of my missions where stuck in infinite loops. Being the customer oriented kinda guy I am, instead of just saying "Missions a broke lots, try again later", I threw down a few portals to allow people to bypass the loop and finish the mission.

The problem now, is that I got over 100 portal transportations in a single day and I'm stuck hard in Seer territory . . . I'd much rather be a Vigilante - I've taken to Nicking random people (BTW, sorry about that pixi!) just to get my Vig rating up.

You know what would be nice? Some kind of visual clue that says like "60% Seer, 30% Vigilante, 5% Pathmaker, 3% Destroyer, 2% Bedouin, 1% Benefactor" - maybe a bar graph or something. Then you could see your alignment shifting and get a better idea for the magnitude of the impact that various actions can cause.

I just tend to take missions in some kind of ratio, like 10:6:2 in order to change my Associations, try it for three days and see if it works for you...

Yes, I keep getting seered for some reason - despite having only had one portal hit and taking mostly Vigilante missions! It's most odd.

I think the issue with the weight toward seer-ship is that each time a person uses a portal you've placed, it counts toward your tool-usage, so by placing a portal, from there to when it expires, that's 50 uses toward being a seer...

you know, it would be nice just to take missions and lay down portals

both of those functions seem to be malfunctioning for me at the moment.

I wonder if Seer is weighted by simple surfing, too. "Going to look at the internet" is a sort of Seerish activity.

That's how I'd account for it, given that my portal use (laying) is very minimal (and I've not taken one in weeks), but Seer is right up on my association list if I don't take a Bedouin/Destroyer mission a day.

It seems that there is a slight bias towards Seers. Because of that there are more Seers and more missions created by Seers. Because there are more Seer missions, more players become Seers. Soon there will be ONLY Seers.

i originally felt the same about pathmaker - that there were just simply more pathmaker missions than others, but i am starting to see the shift to seer too.

i wish i could become a destroyer again, because i really like laying mines and stuff, but there aren't too many destroyer missions out there. and missions don't really work too well anyway. i suppose i could just take off my armour... :/

Wait- why would taking a portal/portal being taken count?
It shouldn't! Only laying them should count! Do you know how hard I've been trying to become a full-fledged Destroyer?

w.t.f.

Because the missions haven't been working, I haven't been taking any missions at all (and have sadly been avoiding all seer missions so as to preserve my associations).

I've only used crates, lightposts, and mines in the past two days. I boot up pmog today and lo and behold... I'm a SEER? AGAIN?!

It's really silly having following a portal count as 'deploying' a portal, and count towards being a Seer. I mean, my page says I've deployed 42 portals. 42! I've laid a grand total of THREE. I'm not even sure I've followed that many portals. It might even be counting every time I run across one!

@Inventrix Apparently you also get credit when people take your Portals...
So, 42 people have taken trips on your three Portals...

i like the idea that you get credit when people take your portals. if its a highly rated portal, that is positioned well, more people should be taking in and you should earn from that. but i'm also not sure about getting credit for taking portals. in my imagination, a seer transports others to destinations unknown to them, so that should be what counts, not the travelling.

@pixelo: Oh, I do see that mentioned up the thread now that you mention it (again).

I've been typing out explanations of why it's imbalanced and deleting them when I've realized I'm wrong, over and over. I think the issue isn't so much that the Seer rating method is unfair, as a combination of the weights of item usages (portals should count for less than crates and mines, and it would be ideal if crates counted for more if they had more stuff inside, for example) and the difficulty in actually using some items. Like armor or St. Nicks, which only can be used if you happen to trigger a mine - which I never seem to, curse my luck.
