Using Firefox 3 on Windows XP, just upgraded to .418. Also just changed my password, and I think it's the password change that's really horked things up.

On three separate systems now, trying to change my password for the toolbar (I know the password works okay because I can log in to the site here!) has failed to some degree - on one PC I used the "delete all stored passwords," but that didn't seem to help - I even checked the Firefox options and verified the password there was correct. I wound up uninstalling the addon and reinstalling it and I still get odd errors on that machine.

On this machine, I updated to .418, and the "delete all stored passwords" option is missing entirely now - confirmed this on another working system with .418 (my girlfriend plays too!). I had to uninstall and reinstall the add-on, but now when I log in it says my password is incorrect regardless of the fact that I'm entering the correct password.

Whew - that was a novel. Anyone seen this before? Have any suggestions? I'm chronically logged out at this stage, I'm afraid.

Ah - looks like I fixed this one myself!

So I had my girlfriend try to log in on my system (something I should have done while troubleshooting) and she was able to get in without an issue.

That got me to thinking about what was different about our accounts, and the first thing I thought was that my password has special characters in it and hers doesnt. By special characters, I mean: ), &, #, *, and so on.

I reset my password to something that didn't have those characters and only had letters and numbers, and it seems to have resolved the problem.

At the same time as I'm thrilled to find out the issue, it's somewhat irritating that the site will let you change your password to something with special characters but the toolbar doesn't like it. Might be something worth adding to any documentation, or maybe just disallow special characters in the passwords entirely?

@halophoenix,

This is a strange bug. I will try to reproduce it on my client and then get it into a developer to look into ASAP.

These kinds of things are best e-mailed to bugs at pmog dot com though. I almost overlooked this thread (because it was posted in the middle of the night and got buried).

For specific and individual account issues, please, always e-mail them in to accounts at pmog dot com.

Thanks -- I just want to make sure we are able to document, and resolve these issues for you and everyone =)

After the 0.418 toolbar upgrade, I also experience a similar issue with trying to login using the toolbar. I'm on FF3 and Windows XP. I can log into the website (as you can see) but the toolbar doesn't connect so I've stopped earning DP (sadness...)

Would anyone recommend that I email my account details as well? Is this an isolated issue?

Are you using non-alphanumeric characters?
If so, that's your problem...just delete your stored PMOG passwords and create a new one...

My toolbar's not logging in this morning, either (and I don't have any weird characters...)

ETA - Nevermind. On the off chance, I cleared cache and cookies and that seems to have cleared it up.

Though it's still extremely sluggish. I keep having to clear cookies and restart Firefox in order to be able to put on armor. Somethings timing out.

Thanks, karmakaze, I am looking into this now.

This is another one of those bugs that might have gotten lost in the shuffle though, since it was buried in an unrelated thread.

I have the same issue, and no clearning of cache or cookies fixes it. Half the time, I can't even get the toolbar to open in FF3.

@johnhead,

e-mail help at pmog dot com with a list of your extensions.

This does not sound like a similar issues at all, if you can't get the toolbar to open.

I tried the password change, and that didn't work. By default, my FF3 clears cache and cookies every time I exit so that's not resolving it either. When I changed my password, a new username apart from mine appeared in my toolbar login options, but it's actually my email address. I tried using that but it didn't work either.

The toolbar loads successfully, but I just can't get the toolbar itself to log into PMOG. I'll continue the cookies / cache method to see what happens.

Does it help to know from a diagnostic perspective that I usually log in via OpenID and not just using the username and password?

Okay, finally got it working.

Last steps:
1. Cleared Cookies / Cache, restarted FF3
2. Toolbar still didn't login.
3. Created a "new login" using my old username and the recently changed password (no special characters)
4. Toolbar is finally able to login.

Additional Information:

It seems the only way for me to login with the toolbar now is to always select "New Login" in order to re-enter my account information. If I just select my username from the drop-down, it gets stuck trying to sign in.

The question is...instead of using OpenID, did you actually change your PMOG password from your profile edit screen?

Wow - I didn't check back on this and it looks like it exploded. I'll remember to email in the future; I was curious if the issue was account specific or global since I was having the same problem on multiple computers...but then when another account worked, I understood. :)

Thanks for getting back to the thread about it by the way! Definitely a huge help!

@pixelo: Well, I mentioned I was using special characters in the original post, so...yes? That being said, I don't think it's obvious that the use of special characters would have been the problem - considering the web password change utility accepts them and I never saw a note anywhere discouraging their use, I thought it was acceptable. I have a thing for strong passwords. ;) Thanks for chiming in to help!

One thing I should note for everyone else here - my issue had less to do with the .418 toolbar upgrade and everything to do with my password change, which was unfortunately timed right next to each other.

Just want to throw that out there - the toolbar upgrade was NOT part of my problem...except that the new toolbar doesn't have a "delete stored passwords" menu item when you click the PMOG icon and hover over "help." Unfortunately, that means the login help page should probably be rewritten to reflect the updated toolbar. That page is here:

Yes, I've been using my actual PMOG login for the toolbar and the website and not my OpenID login. Each time I start my browser, I need to use the "New Login" option to get it working.

Same here. FF3 / 0.418 on XP sp3

I tried to remove the extension restart browser, reinstall it, get rid of the stored password, refresh toolbar..

The odd thing is that when I had removed the password the refreshed toolbar didn't know my login anymore, then when I logged in to the site - as the toolbar wouldn't - and told firefox to remember the password, all of a sudden the toolbar not only remembered my name but also my level, so it does seem to communicate somewhere.

I can't log in via the toolbar eihter.
FF3 / 0.418 on XP
I've de- and re-installed different versions of the toolbar, re-started firefox and the computer several times, changed my password, nothing works, it's just telling me that it's logging in (for half an hour now).
Now I've got the latest version of the toolbar, but it doesn't look like it.

I too am having the same problem (FF3/0.418/XP). Sometimes I get a black bordered box on the mid-left of the screen (most noticable on Google) that looks empty but if you try and select it you get the text "The Pmog Server could not be contacted. Please try again later."

I did think it was some new firewall restriction they've put in at work but after reading through this I'm not so sure.
