So, whenever I go a day or so without dropping a crate or using a St. Nick or something like that, I log in the next day to find that I'm a Vigilante.

That would be fine, if only I'd ever laid a mine...ever. Which I haven't. I think I took about four or five Vigilante missions in my first couple of days of playing. In fact, I think some of the intro missions are Vigilante missions. Yet, it seems odd that after a couple of months of avoiding Vigilante missions and never, ever placing a mine, that I would always default back to Vigilante after days when I don't reinforce one of my preferred associations.

Certainly not game-breaking, but I was planning to create a Benefactor-factioned mission today because I was actually a Benefactor yesterday, but today I'm a Vigilante again.

I've done a bunch of Benefactor missions, too, and I have been known to leave some crates around. Am I just not beneficent enough? :)

Keep taking benefactor missions to up your association with them. Also, Vigilantes use St. Nicks not plant mines (although some do both) which might help explain things. Do you St. Nick people? We (Vigilantes) try to thwart those pesky Destroyers (the mine planters).

Mines are Destroyer tools, St. Nicks are Vigilante tools...
And yes, taking Vigilante missions will make you a Vigilante, that's how the Associations work...
Take more Benefactor missions...
And check out what other people have to say:

I think I should be clear here, just so my perception of the problem is clearer than I originally presented it.

I think I've taken about 3 Vigilante missions. In contrast, I've taken, oh, probably 50 or 60 Benefactor missions. I've also used about 3 or 4 St. Nicks ever, and probably left about 20-30 crates scattered about.

Honestly, the numbers don't really add up at all. I still really don't see how I should keep defaulting from Benefactor back to Vigilante with numbers on that scale when compared to each other. Are some associations meant to be more difficult to hang onto?
