How you can get people interested in your missions. I'm going to be setting up a series of missions about music and want to keep a thread going on this. Is this the right place to do it? |

You might want to try this thread:
getting a mission popular is very hit/miss. What you may think will take off, just won't get any traffic at all. Not through any fault of your own, but a ton of issues can have an effect. Just keep making missions, but realize they will not be your major source of DP income, I look at them like a bonus (and not a big one). Just keep surfing, and don't worry about how popular/unpopular your missions are. :) |

Spamming your mission will get you hellfire. Be creative and maybe somehow award people for taking it and you might be ok. The fact that your even asking is sojme major brownie points for me. I like the cut of your jib. |

Yesh - I just posted a comment in the other thread, but I thought I'd leave one here too; I don't do programming, so I'm not too hot on that kind of that kind of thing, but I liked the idea that you had - is there any way I can use it easily?

Only way to get people to take your mission, is to make a mission that is fun, with a good description and an awesome title, and lightpost pages that A relate to the mission and B get a lot of visitors, Preferably ones you can almost be sure are interested in the things your mission relates to. eg, Create a mission about star wars. Start it on Starwars.com, Give it a title such as "Han shot first" or even something good, Describe it well and in depth. If that doesn't work, point out it hits a lot of obscure webpages and will prolly earn the player roughly __DeeP's. Then hope. |

Well what I've seen done is: "I'll put crates on this mission every day"
You're better off turning it into some kind of a game with a reward... like maybe a riddle where the first person to PM you the answer gets 500DP and every page is a clue. Or maybe you could do "what do all these sites have in common?" Anyway, if you're looking to make DP off missions, you won't really make any this way since rewarding people would cost more than you'd make. If you just want to make a popular mission honestly it usually takes care of itself. Maybe send the link to some allies that wouldn't be annoyed. I've seen people also leave crates with the mission URL in them... but I never take them since it's usually like 10DP in them. I guess I don't really have much advice for you. Making a successful mission is very very hard. Everyone wants something different. I like short ones for example but most people like 8-10 lightposts I think. Sorry! This post was very long and very uninformative. |

I have just recently come to realize that my method of leaving crates around (containing loot) with a link to my latest mission is morally questionable. I would leave crates anyway, but they'd be fewer and with more loot each if i wasn't publicizing my missions. Does my crate leaving bother people? Would you consider it spamming? -Rhea |

Of my 5 missions 4 have clear themes and one is pretty much random stuff i liked. Guess wich one got more visitors than all the others together? |

@Rhea, No. I'd consider it pretty good usage of crates. They get something, you get missions taken. Maybe. It's called advertising. Keep up the good work. |

Meraxes - I'm putting my money on the random one. People on here will pretty much prefer to LOOK for a bit of harmless fun. If they happen to find something interesting or helpful, then that's just a bonus. That's where people like the Pathfinders come in (I'm not there yet). They know in which directions to point people. |

If someone left me a crate with a mission url that they thought I'd like, and said so - I'd probably take it. They wouldn't even have to leave a bribe, but a bribe is always welcome. It's no guarantee I'll take the mission or rank it well though. I've done some I thought would go over well. They didn't. I've done some I thought would be poorly received - they got decent reviews. I'll continue to make more, and see what happens. |

@rheasparrow I don't know, how is cratevertisement any different from portalspam? Besides the fact that there's 10 DP in the crate? Maybe it's just me, but the only imperative I prefer to see in in crates is one asking me to pass along the contents (or an equivalent) to the next person. Anything more is liable to produce a guilt trip in someone who can't take or isn't interested in taking your mission. I would, however, like more built-in ways to promote good missions without resorting to advertising wars. We have a featured mission of the day, and perhaps more things like that would be a better solution. Maybe an automated poll where PMOGians can vote for their favorite missions each day, and the winners get posted somewhere on the site. The hope of official exposure is a good incentive for people to make quality missions. |

Just thought of a problem with leaving a crate in the last link - there's always someone watching my activity, I find. I dropped a crate with a fair bit of stuff in it on a site I planned to use in a mission (and I'm pretty sure it's not that well known), and the next thing I know, I'm getting a message saying thanks for the loot! |

The trick is to not put the crate on the front page of a site. The events page only tells the domain where you're stashing, not the exact page. I would generally recommend not using front pages anywhere in missions anyway; in my opinion missions should be specific and not broad. Usually there's a page deeper within a site that will be more interesting and/or relevant than the home page. Of course this isn't always the case, but I find it to be a helpful rule of thumb with occasional exceptions. :-) |

A good point about front pages being less interesting. I agree utterly - Youtube would be a perfect example. |

Timing when you publish seems to help (6pm on a weekday evening seems to be good) Also consider setting portals on sites that relate to your mission and port people over to a mission page, where they can start. I don't use wikipedia for my missions, but I sure put a lot of portals there :) HTH! |
