Outside of the 'illustrated poem' in the codex, are there any PMOG related bits of comicing? I ask as the idea of seeing something themed around this little experiment in social networking wold be rather interesting. That and seeing everything based in a giant mythical steampunk themed nation would be rather....interesting. |

actually that leads me to ponder having an entire steampunk subculture on pmog

The problem is we're past the alpha stage so any new features would technically not be doable. Then again who pays attention to alpha/beta distinctions anymore? |

yea. hmm

True, and I've seen a few missions (which broke on me but nontheless WERE interesting) that prove the idea. Back to the original subject though. If PMOG were done as a comic, what would be the premise. 'Stranger in a Strange Land'? |

perhaps something created in parallel, you're suggesting, eh? Please elaborate, I am sensing a great idea brewing here! |

Well I'm looking at the visual poem thing and seeing a premise there. 'course it has that eighties/tron/whatever feel to it of 'person A gets sucked into different world and thus you have your excuse to explain the oddities to the viewing audience while exploring the crisis/situation/daily life/whatever of the locals' I suppose it would kinda end up highlighting the Order Vs Chaos 'war' going on as well as a few archatypical types showing up now and again. |

yea, that would be rather easy to fit in. It basically would fit with some very basic archetypes. I imagine a steampunky sort of world would make sense. One where things are patched together, and don't always work, where you can see the bolts and nuts etc.

Of course one would have to wonder at how the technology (tools) work? Eh, its steampunk era, lets just go with aether for portals and st. nicks. Mines're pretty straightforward. Drop somewhere, wait for someone to show up, kaboom. Lamp posts're either archlamps, or gaslight, and armor, well, armor is armor so you're bound to see people walking 'round in full suits.. Data Points're straightforward enough, money left laying about (which brings to my mind the image of an entire city scouring about for loose change, but I digress) Suppose we'd first end up seeing a Pathmaker adding new lamp posts to what was a dark and foreboding street, which is STILL foreboding, but only because we see exactly what's there :) Then again what do these people do when not out on the prowl? A Seer has to have hobbies other than setting portals about, same for a Mine Layer or Avenger (though I imagine there's more than a few of the latter who's' wholly consumed with finding people with mines and swarming 'em with the little robot things). This actually sorta ties into an idea I had for awhile based on the idea of 'what would computers end up looking like if anthropomorphic and put in a steampunk setting?' which I suppose is ripping Chobbits off a little, but considering my idea had computers of different genders and ages (as mine was fairly aged before it finally died his was represented by an elderly gentleman adventurer that, despite his advanced years, just never seemed to quit meddling). Of course there's the question of story, politics, and how people get by on a day to day existence. Postscript:
Coordination with these people would be good! |

I'm actually drawing a PMOG-themed strip for my comic right now. I'm of like mind, which is why I made the PMOG Mythology post over in the Gameplay thread. I'm planning to do a series of fan fiction-type missions. Personally, I'm thinking about taking the internet analogy a little further and while the steampunk theme should be prevailant, who's to say that the setting needs to be just one world? Why not multiple worlds/dimensions? Portals to anywhere. Still trying to figure out what to do for my story missions, but it'll be along those lines. |

I imagine that the DP would make sense as money, but I don't think having it just lying around would work out so well.I think that maybe we could earn it somehow, suppose there're resources that we can exploit on sites? I'm not quite sure how that would work, but I don't think just having money lying around is a great idea. Perhaps we use bartering and so have stones, trinkets, so on, which we pick up at each site.

Good ideas, as getting away from strict interpretations help make the place feel ore 'real' (to be fair its hard to make real world mechanics fun, especially in a passive game). Perhaps each 'region'/domain would be aken to its own city/town/community (where the larger ones like Google would be bustling metropolises and smaller ones like yoursitenamehere.com would be like two street affairs) with lampposts that're interconnected giving not only regional illumination, but also something along the lines of working the same as portals, only they're more permanent, and have two direction traffic flow rather than the portal's blind hop then no way back). As to data points, I understand what you're saying, just spoke the first thought that popped into my head about imagery. Now then everyone that's within this alternite realm of interconnected places would also be new, so I suppose we could say that the only 'government' in place that connects everything is self rule (granted individual places would also have thier own laws and such) and even though the two factions are often sniping and bickering, for the most part they agree and follow the agreed upon tennents. No involving non-combatants.

this is well know (I am indeed one of those vegans) There is also an interesting interplay based on the fact that you can have both chaos and order associations. so people can use "chaotic" or "orderly" tools to further their opposite.

Or one could look at it less as factional and more on the ideals of a personal ration of order to chaos with organizations being looser knit and constantly shifting. However I'd prefer to keep things from progressing byond the scale of loose knit groups as I don't see anything nearly as cohesive as city-states forming. |

it could always be along the lines of "honour among thieves" there's a standard of behaviour.
perhaps some of the things suggested for discussion here http://pmog.com/forums/gameplay/... would be good for fleshing out the stories and such. especially for those of us who are unable to draw (covered most everything else, but drawing evades me)

Currently stocking up on datapoints for lamp posts and portals so I can make a few things later down the line, which might or might not end up panning out. |

yea, I've been messing about with story missions. I did one that was fairly successful, but I want to do something different with the next one. We'll see. |
