I guess I just don't understand why it is deemed acceptable to send snarky (borderline rude) Pmail messages to players that you don't know regarding comments that you made on their missions...
For example, Cloud87man sent me this little gem:
"Your comment is completely inane. Ron Paul is running as a Republican. Accordingly, he cannot split any vote. If McCain gets the nomination, that's it, he's out. Learn politics."

Hmmm...vote splitting, to me, in any case seems to cause the most damage when it occurs across party lines. Ron Paul is attractive to moderate/conservative Democrats. Even when he doesn't receive the GOP nomination, he will be considered a write-in candidate. Anyone remember Perot? Running as an independent helped him to split mad votes.
: (

Thus, my response:
"There is no reason to send messages like that at all--my comment addresses the fact that RP is attractive to Democrats as well as Republicans. Don't be so snide."
/end rant
~☺~
Anyone else received messages such as this? It just strikes me that the anonymity provided by the online world appears to give confidence to those who don't speak up in RL. T/F?

Pixielo: I thought that was a given. And something I, for one, have learned to deal with when on the internet.

I know I used to want to react in similar ways when posting online, but have since toned things down. :)

Just write it away to a little immaturity and let it go.

I'm not sure that we can stop snarkiness online, but fortunately PMOG is a self-policing community, what with mines, St. Nicks 'n' all. Did Cloud87Man really want to insult PMOG's leading lady?

Pixi - I'm glad you were not up in the middle of the night posting that post. Cloud87Man must not have seen that little xkcd comic a few weeks ago about "Wait, someone is wrong on the Internet."

Immaturity comes in all forms whether it is mass mining on people's profiles for no reasons or quick little snide comments in pmail.

Be proud of all those comments you've left on so many missions and don't let one hater pull you down. :)

Typhon is right about this self-policing community.

Well, you're both a bit wrong. ;)

Paul has made no statement that he will not consider running as an Independent candidate in the near future, as you said, and there has been a great deal of speculation. To say, "McCain gets the nomination, he's Out!" is very short sighted, very dangerous, a bit naive given Paul's politics. If the man decides to run, not only will be be In, he will Most Certainly split votes.

Conversely, if he chooses not to run (which is almost a given at the moment), write-in votes for him will be negligible. . And given the 'small goverment' perspective, he'll most likely pull many more votes within his own Party. His appeal among Democratic moderates is small; most folks who like him on the left are enarmoured with the "No Taxes!" delusion.

In any event, the man scares the Bejeezus out of me. No Department of Education? Pass.

Never gotten a message like that, yet. Input and comments should be appreciated, not challenged or belittled. Thankfully, most PMOGers seem to be pleasant, mature, reasonable folk!

Word. I appreciate it.
For a note, I happen to live in D.C.--American politics runs in the freaking water around here...and Ron Paul also just scares the beejezus out of me...

While the future may change, right now Ron Paul is running for the Republican party candidate. As such, the term "Vote Splitting" would seem not to currently apply. Further, if he was to win (he's not going to, but let's say he did) it's not considered "vote splitting" if he appeals to some voters of the other party. Vote splitting is about stealing vote from someone who would have come in first and then you come in third and he comes in second and some other guy you both disagree with comes in first.

I like Ron Paul, he's a small government Republican. I think people who are afraid of his message probably didn't hear the whole message.

@pixielo - do you think a 'report this message' button would help?

Perhaps, but in this case the message wasn't overly vile, just snippy and annoyed. Truly hateful and nasty messages that are designed just to freak someone out, though--I'd like a way to report those.

As much as I hate the thought of anyone abusing the Pmail system like that, it's bound to come up sometime.
