If it's a good mission, and you enjoyed it, you should give it 4/5 stars off the bat just to be kind. If it's an Rival, give it a 1 out of spite and mine him/her just because you can. But if you're still stuck on how to rate missions, I've thought of a little way. 1 star - Good number of domains. You get 2DP per domain, if someone's just gone through one site, you're not going to be clocking up the points. 1 star - Good number of links. If a mission was only 3/4 links, what's the point? A good mission is in-depth and has several different aspects of the subject. 1 star - Difference in links. Did they give you lots of choice/stances on the topic of question? Or was it biased? Were there any particular sites that you liked? Award them this star if they did their homework, and not just via google. 1 star - Douchebag rating. Did the mofo Rick Roll you? Was it laid with mines? That's probably automatically a 1, but if the sites were annoying, then don't give them this star. Mine/ St Nick them for good luck as well. There's a special place in hell for cranberryjeus. 1 star - The content. Did you like the subject it was posting about? So many people give well thought out missions a 1 because it was about Rick Roll, when they hate Rick Roll. This is so you can give a good mission a 4/5 even if you don't like the subject matter. Which is very nice of you. Of course this could be bull, its up to you. But would be nice to be fair now and again. |

It might also be wise when making missions to keep in mind your audience's attention span. 20 sites in one mission might be taaaad bit too many. But only 4 and they might feel cheated (Although I can picture some missions where that would be appropriate if each site is information intensive and laden with reading, etc. that *would* take time if you stopped to look at it instead of ploughing on through the mission, like, say, a mission with short stories). What do y'all think? What's a good rule of thumb when thinking about how many sites to include in a mission? 7? 10? |

@karmie Like you said I think it depends on the content, and the author imo. |

Definitely. Make them medium length. 20 sites is a waste of lightposts anyway. |

I figure that it should probably take about 10 minutes or so to complete a mission and look at the content, so if it's videos etc you may only want 5 or so, but for normal pages (depending on content) 8 - 10 sounds about right =) |

Bump, for grave justice. This is totally worth people looking at again. :) |

I think a mission should include enough sites to cover the subject - but should not in any way be padded. I think it helps to let players know exactly what they are in for. My mission "Reduce your junkmail" has only 4 sites, but my description says "A short mission that will give you the tools you need to eliminate catalogs you don't want to receive, get rid of previous residents' unforwardable mail, and reduce your own junkmail to boot." I hope that people who have read that will know a) exactly what the mission is about and b) that it is short, and so, won't be disappointed. FWIW, I usually rate a well-thought out mission 4 stars, even if I am bored by the subject matter, or it was created by a rival. I figure I'm rating the mission, not the content or creator. |

I think I'm always curious when mission descriptions do nothing to prepare you--or even better, when you take the time to describe a mission and those taking it pay no attention to your intro... Puzzle missions are, of course, exempt from total subject clarification--please just stipulate that it's a puzzle so that we know to pay attention... What Mikey said is totally good advice; just set a basic time limit--allow more time for content you *really* need to watch. I think that 10 minutes is not a lot to ask for media-heavy missions--just don't make it uber-long. Otherwise, I seem to follow Concept's criteria:
Less awesome than above? 4 stars.

I'm a bit of a design snob so I tend to rate higher when people use sites that are well designed and look nice in their missions. If the site is just plain text its boring and I want to move on as fast as possible, but if it is designed well with images and colour, then I want to spend time there. just a quick example, learn to knit sites: great: http://www.knittinghelp.com/
If someone made a "knitting" mission with sites that were of the same quality as the "great" one, then I would rate it higher, even if the content of the "boring" pages were very similar. |

I totally hear you Astrogirl--more colors and shiny things to get my attention is always a good way to go for a better rating. |
