 Mission Description
It's still possible to read a history book without encountering any women except as adjuncts to men - ciphers who played no part in important matters. Here are some of the women I admire, though the woman who first attracted me, Eleanor of Acquitaine, is not here (though totally unlike Katherine Hepburn, she did manage to found what was effectively a battered gentlewomen's refuge). They are tenuously linked, and are only a selection of the ladies whose lives have now been an interest of mine for many years.
