 Mission Description
Iain M Banks is a brilliant sf writer from Scotland. While his novels would qualify as "hard" sf, they aren't just computers, spaceships and galactic battles (though there is plenty of that.)
Most of his stories touch upon what it is to be "human" or alive and while set with a backdrop of a galaxy-wide civilisation also are startlingly about the individual.
If asked to name a favourite, I'd be hard pressed since I've loved every book of his I've read.
