 Mission Description
One of my favorite books, this novel by Neil Stephenson really hits home in today's society on the internet. In real life, you can be a nobody in a dead end job... but go home, turn on your computer, enter the Metaverse and you could be a star of the online community.
This mission will take you on a trip to familiarize yourself with the novel, the author, and how many aspects of this book hits eerily home in today's society.
"As Hiro approaches the Street, he sees two young couples, probably using their parents' computers for a double date in the Metaverse, climbing down out of Port Zero, which is the local port of entry and monorail stop.
He is not seeing real people, of course. This is all a part of the moving illustration drawn by his computer according to the specifications coming down the fiber-optic cable. The people are pieces of software called avatars." -Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash, page 35.
