Many technologies implemented today would have been the stuff of science fiction a few decades ago. We are beginning to know enough about the brain and the senses and have technology that is small and portable enough that we can augment nature in very useful and exciting ways. In many cases we are simply compensating for deficits, but some technology is letting us expand on the normal range of the senses and physical ability. Finally, we're starting to learn how to merge machines and electronics with biological systems to create new tools.
